Job Summary

As a Web Developer at Agency Habitat, you’ll play a key role in bringing digital designs to life through clean, functional, and well-structured code. You’ll work alongside senior developers, art directors, and content teams to build and maintain websites across a variety of platforms, primarily WordPress and Shopify. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in modern front-end development and a growing interest in back-end technologies and performance optimization. You’ll be challenged, supported, and given opportunities to expand your technical skillset in a collaborative agency environment.

Key Responsibilities:  

Development 

  • Develop responsive, accessible websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP (depending on the platform) 
  • Build and customize themes and components in WordPress (ACF) and Shopify (Liquid) 
  • Collaborate with designers, content creators, and project managers to translate mockups into functional, performant digital experiences 
  • Support more junior developers as needed and collaborate with senior team members on complex builds 
  • Work within project timelines and contribute to accurate scoping of tasks 
  • Participate in code reviews and peer programming sessions to improve quality and consistency 
  • Clearly communicate progress, blockers, and technical challenges to project leads 
  • Work with version control (Git) for project collaboration and deployment 
  • Contribute to research and implementation of new tools or workflows that improve developer productivity or site performance 

Quality Assurance 

  • Test across browsers and devices to ensure consistency and responsiveness 
  • Implement basic SEO best practices and performance optimization techniques 
  • Review your own and others’ code to ensure accessibility (WCAG 2.1), security, and mobile usability standards are met
  • Perform other tasks as assigned. 

 Knowledge and Skillsets: 

  • Proficiency in semantic HTML5, responsive CSS (Flexbox/Grid), and modern JavaScript (ES6+) 
  • Experience with Tailwind CSS or other utility-first frameworks 
  • Solid understanding of WordPress (especially ACF, custom post types, and theme development) 
  • Experience using Git and working with staging/production environments (Vercel, Kinsta, WP Engine, etc.) 
  • Exposure to REST APIs, browser dev tools, and basic debugging practices 
  • Awareness of accessibility, performance, and SEO fundamentals 
  • Bonus: Familiarity with Shopify and Liquid templates 
  • Bonus: Familiarity with GA4, Google Tag Manager, or basic database concepts (MySQL/Firebase) 

Leadership & Soft Skills 

  • Detail-oriented and comfortable working in an extremely fast-paced environment 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills 
  • Eagerness to learn from teammates and take ownership of your craft 
  • Willingness to ask questions and proactively seek help or clarity 

Qualifications: 

  • 2-4 years of professional experience in web development (agency experience preferred) 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or completion of a web development bootcamp/training program 

Relationships: 

  • Reports to: Interactive Creative Director or Senior Developer 
  • External relationships: Occasionally interfaces with clients and vendors during QA or launch phases 

 

Job Location:  

  • Remote or hybrid 
  • Occasional travel or after-hours work may be required during high-demand project phases
